Job Overview

The role of the Worship Leader (WL) is to support the vision of Grace Bible Church by leading the congregation and worship team in reverent and engaging modern worship under the direction and leadership of the Worship Director. This will require a firm grasp of the beliefs, values, and strategy of Grace Bible Church and the ability to align staff and key leadership teams with its mission, vision, and values. This is a developmental opportunity that will be given the time and training to develop skills and responsibilities to transition into the lead role of Worship Director at one of our campuses, with mentorship and guidance from the Lead Pastor and existing leadership. 

PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES 

Worship Leadership 

  • Lead worship for Sunday services and other special events (e.g., holidays, funerals, youth nights, baptisms). 
  • Plan and execute worship services in alignment with the overall theme and purpose. 
  • Create setlists, arrange songs, and ensure a smooth flow of worship during services. 
  • Prepare worship slides and other multimedia elements, ensuring clarity and professionalism. 
  • Collaborate as needed with Leadership and ministry leaders to incorporate worship into church-wide events.

Team Development 

  • Build and nurture a cohesive worship team, fostering spiritual and musical growth among members. 
  • Conduct regular rehearsals that focus on team dynamics, skill development, and spiritual care. 
  • Mentor and develop the Youth Worship Team to equip the next generation of worship leaders. 
  • Cultivate a culture of encouragement and community within the worship and tech teams. 

Technical Support 

  • Assist in operating and maintaining sound, lighting, and multimedia equipment. 
  • Support tech team members and ensure smooth execution of audio-visual elements during services. 
  • Learn and grow in knowledge of production technology to prepare for expanded responsibilities. 

Administrative Duties 

  • Collaborate with Leadership to evaluate and select new worship songs. 
  • Maintain worship team schedules and organize resources like chord charts and tracks. 
  • Participate in staff meetings and leadership development sessions. 

 

GRACE STAFF EXPECTATIONS 

  • Attend staff and leadership meetings as scheduled. 
  • Meet weekly with Worship Director 
  • Maintain an active relationship with Jesus Christ sustained through the practice of personal spiritual disciplines. 
  • Embody Christlikeness and lead with humility, character, and love. 
  • Demonstrate commitment to unity and a willingness to work in a collaborative team environment. 
  • Be personally engaged with GBC’s mission, vision, and strategy. 
  • Support GBC’s beliefs, core values, and practices as outlined in the Doctrinal Statement. 
  • Maintain annual Ministry Partner agreement. 
  • Remain up to date on all activities and ministries going on at all GBC campuses to be able to disseminate information as needed. 

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS 

  • Able to play instrument, sing and lead a band well 
  • Strong knowledge base in planning center online, sound, lighting, and video.

Job Overview

The Worship Leader at the Schertz campus of Grace Bible Church is someone with a deep love for Jesus Christ and His people; someone who has musical skills with a passion for music and the role it plays in congregational worship;  someone who is creative and can use that skill to draw others to and engage them with the greatness of God; someone who can lead themselves, the worship team, and the congregation in contemporary, reverent worship; someone who can thrive in a team environment; and someone who can envision, energize, and create a sacred space on Sunday mornings and other worship services, fostering an intimate encounter with Jesus for our congregation to engage with God.

This is a part-time salaried role; therefore, “working hours” during the week are flexible. However, the Worship Leader is expected to “work” from 7:00 am to approximately 2:00 pm on Sundays. 

PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Create and develop a culture of contemporary worship that reflects Grace’s vision and style, including working with the Worship Director and Campus Pastor to implement our theology of worship for the Schertz Campus.
  • Lead two worship services on Sunday mornings, which include:
    • Weekly planning and production to follow the theme and purpose of the worship service.
    • Ensuring that worship slides are purposeful, look professional, are readable by the congregation, and are prepared before Sunday morning.
    • Assisting in the setup and teardown processes each weekend.
  • Lead the Worship Team well, which include:
    • Fostering good communication and a strong sense of community among the band members and the A / V techs.
    • Deepen each member’s skills and abilities along with that of the entire worship team.
    • Have organized, well-planned, and meaningful worship practices whereby you care for them spiritually, emotionally, etc. (i.e., this is your small group).
  • Responsible for staffing Tech and Video needs for Sunday morning services.
  • Participate in scheduled staff meetings and staff development times.
  • Strong knowledge base in programmed lighting, sound, presentation software, video, and video streaming and can teach and assist in these production components when needed.
  • Responsible for new song vetting, chart creation, arrangement, theme, and flow for services and other worship-related events in conjunction with the Campus Pastor.
  • Continue honing musical proficiency and biblical knowledge.
  • Participate in all levels of Leadershift related specifically to Worship, including developing volunteer teams to perform various functions and identifying and developing volunteer team leaders, coaches, and coordinators as needed.
